19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution
Approved on August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment of the US Constitution focused on voting rights for American women. The 19th amendment was a result of generations of women's suffrage. Women had begun their protests in the early 1800s by organizing marches and petitions, and their main purpose was to empower women with the right to vote. However, it took over 100 years and a lot of struggle for their dreams to finally come true.

Women endured many hardships, such as being heckled or thrown in jail. They also received mixed responses from the different states between 1878, when the amendment was introduced to Congress, and 1920. A number of states still supported male-only voting rights. However, with President Wilson's support, the amendment was finally accepted in 1919 and the American voting system changed radically.
