The administration of Eisenhower was known for taking a middle ground between liberal Democrats and his mostly conservative Republican Party. Eisenhower's administration continued the New Deal programs by vigorously expanding the Social Security.  His administration also prioritized a balanced budget over tax cuts and fought Communism to a standstill.

Thus, his middle-ground ideology did not prove attractive to both left-wing Democrats and conservative Republicans.
