Even though the United States of America was founded on the theme of freedom, Freedom had a different meaning to various groups in the Colonial America. The Europeans that came to settle and seek a new life in the Colonies defined their freedom on economic and religious grounds.
After they had settled and in the 1800s freedom after the war and independence, freedom became limited on the basis of skin color, ethnicity and enterprise. An American farmer's freedom was based on the slaves he owned, his enterprise and the money of money he had.
