The Political causes of Imperialism were patriotism and growing imperial power. They wanted to control as much of the world as they could. The more colonies they had, the greater the nation was. They looked for strategic territories that would provide access to their navies and armies around the world.
Countries took over territories to prevent other countries from doing so. They wanted recognition, world power, and to improve their reputation among other countries. By winning colonies, they gained prestige and the national pride increased.
