Deconstruction is a form of criticism. The goal is understanding the underlying and unspoken and implicit assumptions, ideas and frameworks of cultural forms such as works of art. Deconstruction forces the viewer to wonder about the purpose, the fragility and the symbolism of the image. Example: American artist Michael Mapes has deconstructed and reconstructed traditional 20th century images of pin-up girls .
