Due to its extreme climate, the North Pole is sparsely inhabited by a small variety of organisms. Living there are two humans, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, approximately 30 reindeer and according to the last census, 1070 elves. Santa’s reindeer, Rangifer tarandus rudolfus, are uniquely adapted to their role on Christmas Eve. These deer are able to fly at supersonic speeds, pull large loads worldwide, and digest magic corn. Due to their adaptations, Santa’s reindeer are no longer able to reproduce with other populations of reindeer.
