There are different kinds of laws. The State governments joined in this effort to drive Native Americans out of the South.

  • Here, a lot of states passed laws that hinders the Native American sovereignty and rights and said that they were encroaching on their territory.

  • In Cherokee Nation, the Court was said to have ruled that it lacked the power to hear a case to look at claims of an Indian nation within the United States.

In Worcester, the was said to have Court ruled that the United States, are the only ones and not the individual states, that had power to monitor or deal with Indian nations.

In Worcester v. Georgia case of 1832, the U.S. Supreme Court was against the practices and stated that native nations were sovereign nations.

Southern states wanted to take ownership of Indian lands and they said that they would go to great lengths to have that territory.
