It can be deduced that the feeling and emotion conveyed is that Atticus is in his 50's therefore, he is much older than other parents.

Importance of the feeling in the story

Atticus doesn't drink or smoke like other dads and they think that he can't do anything because he is too old. Therefore, he has old hobbies.

Scout and Jem wished that he could do more and his defense causes them to get teased, so in their eyes, he is "ruining" their lives

This also reinforces the fact that he is different than the other people in the town.
