What happened during Reconstruction?

Reconstruction was the period after the Civil War when the Union attempted to integrate the newly freed enslaved people into society.

Schools were established to train Black people so that they would be more educated.

This success meant that Reconstruction was not a complete failure even after the South rolled back most of the changes that were meant to help Black people.
