A 4-year-old becomes frightened of the dark and refuses to go to sleep at night. How would a psychoanalyst and a behaviorist differ in their views of how this SPECIFIC problem developed?

what is your opinion?

I would say something like psychoanalysts would believe the root of the problem to be rooted in the subconscious, and behaviourists would believe something happened to to 'induce' the fear.

This isn't enough information obviously but do you have any ideas?

The psychoanalytic approach is    when children move through a series of stages in which they face conflicts between biological drives and social expectations. Therefore, fear oft he dark reflects and unconscious motive or anxiety. For example, a psychoanalyst might explain that the child’s fear comes from anxiety about nighttime separation from the parent. Once the anxiety is fixed, the fear will be brought to a minimum.-However, the behaviorists approach focuses on environmental occurrences and behavioral responses. This would cause the child to be scared of the dark if a previous and my opinion is that you should talk to the child and help them become over there fear by practicing with them and showing them that sometimes things cant reaaly be there and its just there imagination
