The bubonic plague is caused by a bacteria, and its scientific name is Yersinia pestis. It is generally spread by flies who get the germs when they bite infected animals (mostly rats) and they subsequently transfer it to humans by bitting them too. It can also be directly transferred from infected animals or people to healthy people.
The symptoms of the illness are the following:
- The plague causes the infected individual to feel very sick, weak and to have a fever, chills, and headaches.
- The symptoms which are specific of the Bubonic plague (the most common type of plague) are the following. It causes buboes, which are swollen and painful lymph nodes under the arms, in the neck, or in the groin.
