Identify how Chekhov’s background and beliefs may have influenced his short story “The Bet.”

Based on Anton Chekhov's background, he was a very philanthropical person. He pursued the career of writing in order to get his family out of poverty. His experiences during his life, were portrayed by the lawer in his story, "The Bet." Like the lawyer, Anton Chekov decided to devote his life to what he always believed, and he values experiences in life more than the material gains.

The story of “The Bet” shows a young lawyer that after many year realizes that his effort will not bear fruit, at the end the lawyer did not care about winning the bet this is pretty similar to Chekhov thought, the two find value in the experience rather than other aspect as the money which they consider banal.
