one end of a 4ft iron rod is attached to the center of a pulley with radius of 0.5 ft. The other end is attached at a 40 degree angle to a wall, at a spot 6ft above the lower end of a steel wire supporting a box. The other end of the wire comes out of the wall straight across from the top of the pulley. Find the length L of the wire from the wall to the box.
P.S this deals with radian measure.

Respuesta :

We use the formula
L = rθ
where s is the arc length or the length of the wire
r is the distance from the center to the end of the rod
θ is the angle made by the rod with the wall

Substituting the values and converting the angle to radian measure
L = 4 (40°) (π/180°)
L = 2.79 feet
