A fibrous joint called the syndesmosis is held together by ligaments. It is situated between the distal fibula, or outside leg bone, and the tibia, or shinbone, close to the ankle joint. It is also known as the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis for this reason.

- Tibiofibular anterior inferior ligament
- Tibiofibular posterior inferior ligament
- Articular cartilage ligament
