The that evidence supports the conclusion that this photograph was likely taken in the early 20th century rather than the late 19th century is that the photograph is in the black and white rather than color.  

The nineteenth century gave birth to the photography and how it was perfected, but undoubtedly, the twentieth century changed photography for good with the arrival of color, flash, snapshot through polaroids as well as digital photography. A century that forever changed photography.
