When the authors refer to words that mean different things in different languages, the symbolic characteristic of communication they are referring.
Symbols are considered the signifier that represents the signified meaning. There are two main types of symbolic communication :-
- Verbal Symbolic Communication- It refers to the communication which uses words.
- Non - Verbal Symbolic Communication- It refers to the communication which uses sign and body language.
It is so because symbolic communication includes speech, sign language, writing (printed or braille script), image/picture communication systems, and tactile communication systems. As communication is the means of exchanging the information, ideas, opinions, etc., with each other.
