Alliteration
Example: Alliteration - ``Fixed fist claws till they broke, and clung tightly to Grendel'' (284) - alliterations are used to emphasize cracks in bones.
Beowulf captures Grendel at the start of the battle. The Danes then fight their way through the passage in terror. But shortly after, the Danes go to bed when they hear Grendel's cries of defeat.
Alliteration example in Beowulf:
VIII. 1. "For fear of feud, I had no choice but to disown him.
XII. 1." Coming out of the wilderness, Grendel left.
XX. 1. “The spirits of hell have humbled themselves.
XXVIII. , is alliteration. The first is found on lines 633-634, where it repeats the 'S' sound 'Still brave, still strong / Shield aside, mail shirt on chest'. Another example of alliteration shown is on lines 717-718.
