What can serve as a proof to a historian and how it can be used to investigate the past?

What is historical evidence?

Historical evidence is regarded as proof of previous occurrences or individuals that can be confirmed with a respectable level of certainty. The date that a record or artefact was actually created, the veracity of the witness who is said to have written it, the environment in which the record or artefact existed, and the veracity of the discovery of the record are all things that historians attempt to establish. Example - For ancient times stone monuments are historical evidence.

Primary sources were "eyewitnesses," or participants in the actual history, of the event. Written texts, audio files, visual sources, etc. are examples. Secondary sources have arrived to us via a middleman of some sort. They were not "eyewitnesses" to history since they were not personally involved in the events we are investigating. For instance, published books (by historians)

To detect bias, establish authenticity, and determine value, source materials and the evidence gathered from them must be reviewed. Understanding the source's context and examining the source's creation process and author are usually required for this.
