Ms cashmore bought a large melon. She cut a piece that weighed 1 1/8 pounds and gave it to her neighbor. The remaining piece of melon weighed 6/8 pound. How much did the whole melon weigh?

you convert 1 1/8 to an improper fraction which is 9/8.then you add 9/8 + 6/8= 15/8.convert 15/8 to an mixed number which is 1 and 7/8.

answer = 1 7/8
