Hooking the Audience
1. briefly mentioning the reasons that support the claim
2. providing an interesting fact
3. asking a thoughtful question
4. making the claim clear by stating, "In this presentation . . ."
5. sharing a related quotation
6. telling a related joke or personal story
to hook the audience with a story or essay the way that I would go is to ask a thoughtful question so people get engaged with the story and then they'll read on to try and find the answer to the question.
