An example of a pun is, "A horse is a very stable animal". This sentence contains a pun because the word "stable" has two meanings- i) steady and even, and ii) a stall in a building where horses are kept.

Irony or ironic statements are used as literary devices as well in everyday speech to express a thought in a dry and sarcastic manner. An example of irony is the sentence: "His soul is as pure as the Devil's". This sentence contains irony since clearly, the Devil's soul is considered sinister and the opposite of pure. 

3. Paradox---- D. Ideas or concepts that seem absurd or contradictory but are nevertheless true.

Paradoxes are literary devices that make a point using sarcasm and dry humor. An example of a paradoxical statement is a famous quote by George Bernard Shaw: “What a pity that youth must be wasted on the young.” This sentence contains a paradox because the thoughts and ideas expressed in it are contradictory, but still true as considered by George Bernard Shaw.

A example of a satire would be mocking and ridiculing a disliked President by using exaggeration and humor to belittle him or her.

Literary devices are used in literature writing by the writers to make the text and the content more understandable and depict a  deep idea, theme or meaning to the content. It makes the story or the poem look more attractive and intensifies the mood.
