What was the US Supreme Court’s ruling in Bush v. Gore, and what was the basis for its decision?

Respuesta :

In Bush v. Gore (2000), a divided Supreme Court ruled that the state of Florida's court-ordered manual recount of vote ballots in the 2000 presidential election was unconstitutional.

The US Supreme Court ruled that the recount ordered by the Florida Supreme Court was unconstitutional. The court based this decision on the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. It ruled that recounting only the votes rejected by machine in only four counties gave preferential treatment to certain votes in an arbitrary way, violating the equal treatment of all people in the state, and in this case, their right to vote.
