The Elizabethan Theaters began in the cobbled patios of Inns - they were called Inn-yards. Upwards of 500 individuals would go to play exhibitions. The outdoors field of the amphitheater was known as the 'pit' or the 'yard'. The phase of the amphitheater anticipated most of the way into the 'pit'. It had a raised stage toward one side which was encompassed by three levels of roofed exhibitions with galleries neglecting the back of the stage.
