In Act IV, Laertes is informed of the death of his father, and he decides to return to Denmark. He gathers and leads a mob and takes the castle. He then confronts Claudius, but the King explains to him that it was Hamlet who killed Polonius, and convinces Laertes to avenge his death. His resolve to kill Hamlet is only strengthened when Laertes is informed of Ophelia's madness and later death. Throughout the whole act, Laertes is passionate, and wants to kill Hamlet.
