world war II has been called "the good war" because it was fought to rid the world of brutal and dangerous dictatorships. Explain why people think of it this way?

The Nazis were truly evil and taking over Europe. Not to forget the holocaust and all the innocent people they killed.

The Japanese also killed many people in China in the 1930s on top of attacking the US.

Unlike the 1st World War, the 2nd World War had a true "bad guy" (Hitler) who needed to perish.

That's just my interpretation of hearing the saying "Good War".
