do you agree with newton minow's statement, on page 654, that TV was "a vast wasteland"? Support your answer with details from the text.

Respuesta :

Television being a vast wasteland means that television is worthless and has no positive values. As Newton said, “"You will see a procession of game shows, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families, blood and thunder, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, western bad men, western good men, private eyes, gangsters, more violence, and cartoons. And endlessly commercials -- many screaming, cajoling, and offending. And most of all, boredom. True, you'll see a few things you will enjoy. But they will be very, very few." With this, I do agree with him since he speaks the reality of TV shows these days.

The question to agreeing or disagreeing to TV being vast wasteland is to be simply put:

  • Television being a vast wasteland means that television is worthless and has no positive values.

As Newton said, "You will see a procession of game shows, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families, blood and thunder, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, western bad men, western good men, private eyes, gangsters, more violence, and cartoons.

And endless commercials -- many screaming, cajoling, and offending. And most of all, boredom. True, you'll see a few things you will enjoy. But they will be very, very few."

Newton speaks with the reality of TV shows these days as mediocre, uninformative and unenterprising. He agrees to seeing good things, but they are very few.

Therefore, the points above will have one to agree to the statement.
