In a paragraph, describe the political and economic characteristics of European states that aligned with the United States and those that aligned with the Soviet Union following World War II. How were these groups similar and different?

The Ones that were with the Axis, Or Nazis, Were nations that had a type of monarchy or totalitarian. The US and the other nations had a type of republic or democratic government, with the exception of the soviets. What I am confused with is that the soviets were with the USA and not with Germany.

During World War II, two big alliances were formed to engage in combat. On one side were the Allied Forces, formed by Great Britain, France, the United States, and the Soviet Union. On the other side, the Axis Powers, formed by Germany, Italy, and Japan. The war started after Adolph Hitler's troops invaded Poland in September 1939. The Axis Powers' countries represented authoritarian governments ruled by dictators in totalitarian states. The Allied Forces -except for the Soviet Union that was ruled by the dictator Joseph Stalin- were democratic countries that promoted trade and freedom.
