Puritan laws believe another way of worshiping God. They believe that each role of a person is according to his role in the family. The major part of their practice, was of course by praying everyday. The human law is different as it aims to practice what is humane and fair which gives alternative that puritans cannot accept.

Natural law states that all activities and decisions must be made based on common sense and rationality. Puritanism, on the other hand, believes that religious sentimentality should be the basis for any decision.

The main differences between Puritanism and natural law:

Puritanism places God above all things.
Natural law places common sense above all else.
For Puritans, God's will be expressed through emotion.
For the natural law, common sense manifests itself through rationality.

In "The Scarlet Letter" the grandeur of Puritanism can be observed deeply, however, we can see that Puritanism is flawed and commits many injustices because of its emotional nature. In this sense, a case of adultery, which would be judged justly with natural law, was judged unilaterally, holding a single person as guilty.
