In The Great Gatsby Fitzgerald creates an effect by comparing different characters such as Gatsby and Tom. He creates this juxtaposition to show the American dream and the reality of the society he shows the behind the scenes of how it is really like to be rich which doesn’t mean everything is perfect when you have money.
