Books can affect a person's body image in the same way media can which is by painting a picture of unrealistic body shapes in the reader's mind.

Books and body image

Authors are able to create images in the minds of their readers by using descriptive words and tenses.

When they paint a picture of people with unrealistic body shapes, the reader will imagine those bodies. If the reader is in love with that fictional body shape but unable to attain it due to their current physical characteristics, they might get hurt and feel bad about how they look.

In conclusion, books can affect body image too.
