As part of the patient self-determination act (PSDA) of 1990, patients have the right accurate and easy-to-understand information about their medical condition. This refers to "competent" patients who will have right to accept or reject medical or surgical treatment and will be able to make decisions affecting their health care. The PSDA is a federal law.
