It was the general feature of "checks and balances" that was included to address the concern expressed by James Madison, since his main concern was that one part of the government, such as the executive branch, would become too powerful.

James Madison was concerned that if they gave the government too much power, the government would most likely transform into a tyranny. Because of this, the system of check and balance which separate the government into three branches was created to prevent it.
