The examination of color and streak are the physical tests that are performed on the minerals to know their exact origin.

  • Two or more rocks or minerals can have similar color but they are unrelated in their origin and chemical composition.
  • A color test can give false indication that two minerals or two rocks belong to the same type.
  • A streak test can give direct indication of same or different origin as the mineral or rock is pressed against a hard substratum it liberates a powdery color residue which can be used to examine the exact color of the rock or mineral.
