The length of a rectangle is 4 inches greater than the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 24 inches. What are the dimensions of the rectangle?


length = 12 in.; width = 8 in.

length = 8 in.; width = 6 in.

length = 8 in.; width = 4 in

length = 6 in.; width = 2 in.

 let  L be the lenghth of the rectangle 
W the width of the rectangle 

and the perimeter of a rectangle is equal sum of the sides 

L+L+W+W =24 

we have L= 4+W   we replace it up 

4+W  +4+W  + W +W = 24 

4W = 16 

w= 16/4 = 4 in
