Because they imprint into your mind

Why does the writer and poet Robert Hass say that "images haunt"?

  • Robert Hass expresses in the Twentieth Century Pleasures, 1987, that haunting images “have a sense of the eternal”.  Nevertheless, this sense of the eternal has a mixture of passing from existence and continuing in time all together, and surrounding that union there is a strong mental agitation of the self. These also have a uniform composition of a story; they are not the worldview of a people. They are not figurative speech, they are direct, they proceed without interruption to show the meaning.
