QUESTION : [tex] \frac{3}{5} [/tex] = [tex] \frac{24}{a} [/tex]. What I would do is divide 24 by 3, and once you do that, your answer is 8. So that leads you to the conclusion that 8 is multiplied by 3 to get 24. Move down to the 5 and the a. If the numerator of the first fraction is multiplied by 8 to get the numerator of the second fraction, then you can sure as heck believe that the same applies to both denominators.

So I would say you multiply 5 with 8. 5 × 8 is 40, and so a = 40.
