In medical term, overweight means that when a person has excess body fat that can lead to a various health problem. The definition for US would be having body mass index(BMI) 25- 30kg/m2 where BMI < 24.99 kg/m2 considered normal.
Obesity has a higher BMI than overweight(>30kg/m2) and has much more impact on the health condition.
