A communist state. Communism is a system of government in which the government controls the economy. This form of government has a single political party and is often administered and governed by a single party representing the proletariat; state controls are imposed on the masses with the elimination of private ownership of property or capital. On October 1, 1949, Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong declared the creation of the People's Republic of China (PRC) after an almost complete victory. The creation of the PRC in 1949 also completed the long process of governmental upheaval in China begun by the Chinese Revolution of 1911.
