depends on the scholar buuuuuuuuuut i was never told about how slavery began so i came to beleive it was cuz white people were scared of "the colored people" so they threatened and abused them to make themselves feel more secure. but they were also selfish so they put them to work. idk how much of that is true but thats what i got out of what i was taught about slavery
