your parents are decorating the dining room and want to place two rectangular wall sconce lights that are 25 inches wide along a 10 2/3 foot wall so that the distance between the lights and the distances from each light to the nearest edge of the wall are all the same. Design the wall and determine the distance

First note that 10 2/3 feet equate 127.2 inches. 
Denote by x the distance we are looking for. 
We have the following equation:
[tex]x+25+x+25+x=127.2[/tex]
Solving the above equation for x we  get:
[tex]x=\frac{127.2-25-25}{3}=25.7[/tex]
The distance is 25.7 inches.
