A consequence of the Mexican Independence was a power struggle and civil war resulted in a dictatorship.  

After gaining independence from Spain, General Agustin De Iturbide became the first emperor of Mexico. De Iturbide led the “Insurgentes Forces” to victory and proclaimed the Mexican Independence with the “Plan de Iguala” in 1821. Finally, on August 27, 1821, he signed the “Treaty of Cordoba” and Spain recognized the Independence of the First Mexican Empire.
