It's either B or D. A doesn't apply, cause the length only depends on the subject. C doesn't work at all because a technical document is more instructional which doesn't allow analogies. D seems to hint that you can also use informal language if wanted, but you really can't. So I'd say B more than D, but its really your call. ;)
