Answer: Carbon dioxide reaches through atmosphere in the water and moves down inside the water. Some marine structure make food by the process photosynthesis by the help of carbon dioxide and sunlight.

  • Carbon dioxide is present in the form of bicarbonate ions and hydrogen ions. The increase in H ions decreases the pH of the water.
  • Some of the hydrogen combines with carbonate to form more bicarbonate ions decreasing the amount of carbonate ions.
  • Many marine organisms combine calcium and carbonate to form the exoskeleton, shells and other structures.
