The proper answer to this question is that you find the velocity by "you have to divide the distance by time of the object".

'Velocity' has two parts ... size, and direction.

Size of velocity ...
-- Find the distance between start point and end point.
-- Divide that distance by the time it took to get from start to end. 

Direction of velocity ...
-- Direction of velocity is the direction from start point to end point.
The actual route followed from start to end doesn't matter.
