The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union after the Soviet Union installed nuclear armed missiles in Cuba which was 90 miles away from the U.S. When President John F. Kennedy notified the people of America of the missiles, everyone feared nuclear war. Finally the nuclear war was avoided when the U.S. agreed to not invade Cuba so that the Soviets could remove the missiles out of Cuba.

Hope this helps.
