In healthy people, when blood sugar rises after eating food,
insulin is produced by the pancreas, and acts to help sugar
from the blood to enter the cells and be used for energy.
In some people, the pancreas produces too little insulin, or
the body has a resistance to the insulin that's there. This
condition is called "Diabetes". The result is that too much
sugar stays in the blood for too long, and this situation is
dangerous for many of the organs of the body.
