Romanticism arrived to United States in the 19th century and was widely popular not only in art and philosophy but politics as well. The themes that would interest American romanticist poets were the individual and the individuality, and the understanding of the world through perception. Also the difference between the natural world, which they saw as inherently good, and the world of men, which they saw as full of corruption.
