Shortly after America became an independent country our first president, George Washington, gave address to the US government after his last term. In his farewell address, Washington warned others to avoid getting involved in the affairs of other countries and to not make permanent foreign alliances.

This differs greatly from today's society. Currently, the US has several permanent foreign alliances and is constantly involved in the social, political, and economic aspects of other countries. The US has developed permanent alliances through organizations like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the United Nations. This calls for the US to constantly use their status as a global superpower to help other nations.
