Poets and thinkers who interpret the Icarus myth usually have his downfall in mind, as well as the unreasonableness of his venture. Gilbert's poem says that it is worth considering that Icarus dared to fly in the first place. In Gilbert's opinion, it takes immense courage to take the sky. Icarus' fail doesn't mean he should never have tried. It means he triumphed, at least for a while. And then his triumph ended with the fall.
