The first Persian Gulf War was the event that launched CNN into prominence. CNN was the only news network that was able to render a live report of the American bombing campaign from inside Iraq by reporters Bernard Shaw, John Holliman and Peter Arnett. Previous unknown reporters of CNN became household names after the Gulf War experience.
